Position Summary

Reporting to the Digital Director in Development & Alumni Relations Communications, this position manages outbound digital communications for the entire Development and Alumni Relations division, which includes communicating with the full list of more than 600,000 alumni and donors. The position is essential in the strategic planning for all digital efforts while also managing content for all division web properties.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

• Four years of experience in marketing, advertising, public relations or related field.
• Experience with social media, email and other digital channels.
• Experience developing a marketing or communication plan.
• Strong writing/proofreading experience is a bonus.
• Detail-oriented.
• Basic graphic design software capability.
• Knowledge of digital and social media strategy.
• Demonstrable expertise and experience in managing social media, especially Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Understanding of annual giving and the development function.
• Outstanding facilitation and customer service skills.
• Strong work ethic and high expectations for quality.
• Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and by phone.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills – including writing, proof reading and presentation.

Lead social media efforts for Development & Alumni Relations (DAR) :
• Develop a content strategy specific to each digital platform (web, social, email) based on big picture university/division initiatives and calendar of events/campaign pushes.
• Plan engaging content across DAR digital properties (including social media and email); work with team to create content.
• Develop and maintain relationships with the Alumni team, UGA Marketing & Communication team, and Athletics team.
o Communicate frequently to maintain awareness of relevant events and programs to promote via social media.
o Proactively seek out input and ideas and then decide what is most appropriate for the alumni audience.
• Create and use a digital content calendar to strategically promote events and initiatives from the division (social and email and web updates). Planning and creating daily social media content is the sole responsibility of this position. If graphic design support or team member input is necessary, it is the responsibility of this position to seek that out in a timely manner.
• Manage alumni social ambassador program.
o Develop and implement new ways to recruit new social ambassadors.
o Determine what content is most appropriate for alumni ambassadors to promote.
o Analyze results and optimize the program on an ongoing basis.
• Cover live alumni and donor events via social media on occasion.
o Determine most efficient way to cover event (attend in person, get event point person to provide content while this position is online, have an alumnus “takeover,” etc.).
o Prep others who may be involved.
o Cover relevant portions of event and monitor any direct alumni coverage of event.
• Explore new digital properties and determine utility for telling the UGA story (like joining Snapchat for the UGA Alumni Association).
• Work with other specialists to produce the content (graphics for social and email, video for web, etc.).
o Initiate and lead such projects.
• Assess content and social channels on a regular basis to determine what’s working well and what’s not; adjust strategy accordingly.
• Collaborate across campus – especially with Marketing & Communication and Athletics – to share digital content and spread DAR’s story/mission/goals.
o Advocate for DAR stories to be shared in other channels (e.g. Athletics) when appropriate
• Use data (social/email/web analytics) to drive strategic thought and inform overall. communications strategy while maintaining a consistent voice and message representative of the university.

Lead email efforts for Development & Alumni Relations (DAR)
• Create and send mass emails for DAR on a daily basis.
o E-newsletters
o Event invitations
o Solicitations
o Survey emails
• Help develop targeting and segmentation strategy for email campaigns (& all digital campaigns).
• Provide advisement on email strategy and calendar development. Because there are dozens of people involved in sending emails to alumni and donors, this position will serve as a filter and single point of contact to maintain a bird’s eye view.
• Serve as a consultant for departmental email marketing strategy.
o Proactively bring forward and implement recommendations to improve email marketing (e.g. combine several efforts to the same audience, segment geographic regions, etc.).
• Collaborate with Advancement Services with testing and enhancing email creation platform.

• Proactively bring advertising ideas forward to test-and-learn new ways to reach DAR goals.
