Master’s degree OR Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience.

Position Summary

This Career Consultant position serves as the career services liaison to the Colleges/Schools at The University of Georgia. This is the tangible link between the Career Center and the college; both externally, as a resource on career planning issues specific to that college for students, employers and faculty; and internally, as a referral point of contact and advocate for that college.

Career Consultants provide comprehensive advising and career counseling related to career exploration, job-related skill development, experiential learning, graduate school placement, and employment placement needs of students and alumni within their respective college. They develop ties with corporate, technical, governmental, educational and non-profit organizations with which UGA students might affiliate. They work closely with their college faculty and undergraduate advising office, other student services staff, and students in developing a meaningful programmatic outreach program.

Meet annually with key principals, e.g. Deans, Department Chairs, Undergraduate Coordinators, friends of the Career Center (individually and in groups), within the college as needed to generate expectations, goals, and actions.

Review current services to determine if they serve the liaison college students’ needs and characteristics. Proactively identify new services, efforts, and programming initiatives on behalf of the students in the liaison college.

Maintain adequate knowledge of academic majors/tracks/trends through contact with administrators, faculty, college staff, students and employers, and through information provided by the department, college, regional and national publications.

Proactively and reactively promote services and programs to the college council, student organizations, faculty gatherings and selected classes.

Develop core presentations for outreach requests by common subject area and major.

Remain aware of college-related special events, such as majors fairs, faculty/staff programs, professional development programs, semester “kick-off” events, and others via networking.

Identify and Track key college contact information.

Develop key relationships with people across campus who serve as referral sources to our Center and help promote our services. Participate in and support college activities and build alliances with Academic Advising, which encounters large populations of students.

Meet with appropriate liaison college-related employers during Career Fairs, on-campus interviewing and through various professional organizations. Plan and market the annual college/industry-specific career fair (if applicable).
